Crawfordsville, Ind. --- The public is invited to the 130th Annual Baldwin Oratorical contest on Tuesday, February 17 in Korb Classroom in the Fine Arts Center. The final round starts at 8 p.m.
Acclaimed as one of the oldest speech contests in the nation, the Baldwin Prize in Oratory is awarded annually to students who "compose and pronounce the best orations."
Students will construct speeches in response to this year’s theme “Talkin’ bout my generation.” The current generation of college students is typically referred to as Generation Y, or the Echo Boomers, or the Millennium Generation. As such, students have constructed speeches that will in some way address the character, influence (current or future influence), strengths or deficiencies of the current generation of college students.
Members of the Speech Department will judge the preliminary rounds on Thursday and Friday, February 12 and 13. The top five speakers will then advance to the finals round on Tuesday, February 17. The five finalists will receive a copy of the complete works of Shakespeare and the top three places are awarded cash prizes.
The event is free and the public is invited.
