Little Giant Tankers Advance to First Day Finals in Three Events at NCAC Championships

Wabash College swimmers will participate in three events tonight in the finals of the first day of the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The three-day event began Thursday morning at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio.

The Little Giants opened the preliminary round on Thursday by finishing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Stephen Birrer (SR/Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Kyle Weaver (FR/Portland, IN/Jay County), Brandon Peacock (SR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Colin Fahey (JR/Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) finished with a time of 1:27.17, just under two seconds behind the top qualifying time by Kenyon (1:25.83).

Senior Brett Findley (Bargersville, IN/Franklin Community) (left) became the only Wabash individual to advance to the finals, finishing eighth in the 500-yard freestyle after swimming the race in 4:48.14. He was also part of the 400-yard medley relay team that also advanced to the finals. Findley joined Matt Perkins (SO/Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Ben Hewitt (JR/Greenwood, IN/Center Grove), and Birrer to take third in the race, earning a spot in the finals with a time of 3:39.28.

The finals are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening. Friday's preliminaries start at 10 a.m. The 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 800 freestyle relay, women's one-meter and men's three-meter diving will be contested on Friday.
