Little Giants Fourth in the Pool after First Day of NCAC Championships

Wabash College finished the first day of the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in fourth place after five events.

The Little Giants scored 183 points, trailing third-place Wittenberg by nine points. Defending champion Kenyon was first with 511 points, followed by Denison with 384 points. Wooster (163.5), Oberlin (156), Allegheny (156), Hiram (112.5), and Ohio Wesleyan (84) rounded out the opening day team scoring.

The 400 medley relay team of Matt Perkins (SO/Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), Colin Fahey (JR/Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Brandon Peacock (SR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Stephen Birrer (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) took fourth place in the finals with a time of 3:32.76, trimming almost seven seconds off of their morning preliminary time. Fahey, Peacock, and Birrer were joined by Kyle Weaver (FR/Portland, IN/Jay County) in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in fifth place with a time of 1:27.09.

Competition continues on Friday at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio with the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 800 freestyle relay, and men's one-meter diving events. The meet concludes on Saturday. Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. both days with the finals slated to start at 6:30 p.m.
