Tennis Team Takes Two from Augustana, Rose-Hulman

The Wabash College tennis team evened its season record at 2-2 after a weekend sweep against Augustana and Rose-Hulman. The Little Giants defeated Augustana 5-2 in the morning match on Saturday, then came back in the evening to defeat Rose-Hulman 6-1.

Wabash took all three doubles matches to earn the first point against Augustana. Seniors Mike Lynch (Evansville, IN/Evansville North) and Constantine Alexander (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) took the first singles match by a final score of 8-6. Nathan Cain (JR/Columbus, IN/Columbus North) and Cameron Starnes (SR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) made certain that Wabash got the point with an 8-3 win at number two doubles. Freshmen Adam Van Zee (Logansport, IN/Logansport) and Adrian Starnes (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) completed the sweep with an 8-3 win at number three doubles.

Lynch earned a 6-4, 6-0 victory in number two singles play. Cain was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at number four singles. Van Zee won the number five singles point with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, and Cameron Starnes completed the win with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number six singles.

Lynch and Alexander swept the number one doubles contest against Rose-Hulman on Saturday night, winning 8-0. Adrian Starnes and Van Zee were 8-2 winners at number three doubles to earn the first point for Wabash.

The Little Giants swept the first four singles matches. Lynch was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at number one singles, while Alexander was perfect at number two singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Adrian Starnes took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at third singles, while Cain won 6-3, 7-5 at number four singles. Van Zee finished the match with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 win a sixth singles.
