The Wabash College baseball traveled to Georgia for the second consecutive week, picking up a 14-7 victory over Oglethorpe on Sunday. The Little Giants lost 4-3 to Oglethorpe in the nightcap, and fell 9-2 to LaGrange College on Saturday.
The Little Giants exploded for 18 hits in the win against the Stormy Petrels on Sunday. Senior Dan Matusik (Highland, IN/Highland) went 4-for-5 with two RBIs in the win. Junior outfielder Tyler Nance (Celebration, FL/Celebration) added three hits and scored three runs. Sophomore Chris Sides (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) also had three hits, three runs, and two RBIs.
Senior Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside) pounded two home runs in the win, finishing 3-of-4 with four RBIs.
Junior Bill Goff (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) earned the victory on the mound, throwing five innings of three-hit baseball for his first win of the season. Nick Rico (SO/Phoenix, AZ/Desert Vista) earned his first save, working 1-2/3 shuout innings.
Wabash was held to six hits on Saturday against LaGrange. Junior Nick George (West Lafayette, IN/Harrison) went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
The Little Giants had a outhit the Stormy Petrels in the second game on Sunday, but a two-run homer in the fifth by Oglethorpe's Brad Simms to erase a 3-2 Wabash lead. George went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior Danny Schubert (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon) was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Little Giants return to the diamond in Florida when Wabash heads south for spring break.
