Healy Wins Opener at NCAA Wrestling Championships

Wabash College junior Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) picked up a pin in his first 174-pound match at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Friday afternoon to advance to the third round of the tournament.

Healy entered the tournament as the seventh seed, earning a first round bye. He defeated Lon Welsh of Luther College by pinning Welsh at the 4:39 mark of the bout. He will wrestle the number two seed, Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Cody Koenig, on Saturday morning in the championship semifinals. A win would guarantee Healy All-American honors for the second consecutive season. He finished eighth at last year's tournament as a sophomore at 174 pounds.

The tournament concludes on Saturday.
