The Wabash track and field team picked up five top-three performances at the 2004 North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. The two-day event concluded on Saturday at Denison University. The Little Giants finished fifth out of ten teams in the final standings.
Senior Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) finished his indoor career at Wabash with two All-NCAC performances. Ruge took second in the 1500 meters, finishing with a time of 4:01.42, less than a second behind first place finisher Aaron Emig from Kenyon (4:00.70). Ruge also took second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.21.
Freshman Jared Jackson (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) captured a spot on the All-Conference team with a second place finish in the pole vault. Jackson cleared 14 feet. Fellow freshman Josh Jones (North Richland Hills, TX/Nolan Catholic) finished second in the long jump with a leap of 21-04 to also earn All-NCAC honors.
In the final individual race of the two-day event, freshman Dennis Frazee (Griffith, IN/Calumet) edged out Wooster’s Matt Linman at the line to earn an All-NCAC certificate with a third place finish in the 3000 meters. Frazee completed the race in 9:06.16.
Wabash finished with 55 points. Allegheny claimed the team championship with 128 points. Ohio Wesleyan was second (111.5), followed by Wittenberg (94), and Denison (58). Wooster was sixth (49), with Earlham (42.5), Oberlin (34), Kenyon (31), and Hiram (21) completing the team standings.
