Wabash College will welcome mezzo-soprano Mitzi Westra as guest artist at a music recital on March 21. The recital will be presented at 4 p.m. in Salter Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Center and is free and open to the public.
She will perform “Letters to Derrick” by Frank Felice; “From the Diary of Virginia Woolf” by Dominick Argento; “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” by Michael Karmon; and A Word on My Ear” by Michael Flanders and Donald Swann.
Westra has performed with nationally renowned artists and opera directors, and has traveled throughout the U.S. performing, touring, and recording with a professional choral group, the Dale Warland Singers. In addition, she was the alto section leader for the DWS Chamber Singers. She has sung with the Indianapolis Symphonic Choir and Chamber Singers, the Beecher Singers at Second Presbyterian Church, and Mon Choeur, the resident chamber ensemble at the University of Indianapolis. Summers are spent in Santa Fe, Mew Mexico, where she sings with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, a professional chamber ensemble. She currently teaches private voice at Wabash College, and voice and theory at the University of Indianapolis.
