Lynch, Alexander Take Titles at Kerry Seward Invite

Wabash seniors Mike Lynch (Evansville, IN/Evansville North) and Constantine Alexander (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) captured the number one doubles title while Lynch also added the number one singles title over the weekend at the annual Kerry Seward Tennis Invitational. The Little Giants finished third out of eight teams at the two-day invitiational, played at Wabash's Collett Tennis Center and the DePauw University Tennis Center.

Lynch went 3-0 for the weekend, picking up a 6-2, 6-2 win in his opening match against Wittenberg's Shane Hutton. Lynch followed with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Dave Kubacki from Ohio Wesleyan to advance to the championship match. He finished with a perfect record for the weekend after claiming a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ethan Busald from Transylvania.

Lynch and Alexander combined for a 3-0 mark at number one doubles. The pair picked up an 8-2 win over Rose-Hulman in the first match of the invite, followed by an identical 8-2 win against Earlham before taking an 8-4 win the championship match against Transylvania.

Alexander finished third at number two singles. He won his opening match 6-2, 6-2 against Hanover, but dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Ohio Wesleyan in the next match. He finished with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Anderson to take third.

Adrian Starnes (FR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) went 2-1 to take fourth at number three singles. He lost 6-1, 6-1 in the opener, but rallied for a 6-3, 6-3 win in his second match. He finished with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Earlham in the finals.

Nathan Cain (JR/Columbus, IN/Columbus North) was third at number four sinlges. Cain started with a 6-4, 6-2 win before losing 6-4, 7-5 to Wittenberg in the second match. He came back with a win in the finals.

Hadi Motiee (SR/Muncie, IN/Burris) took third at number six singles, opening with a 6-4, 6-0 victory in his first match. He lost his next match 7-5, 6-4 against Ohio Wesleyan, but came back with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the finals to capture third place.

Cameron Starnes (SR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) and Cain combined for a second place finish at number two doubles. The pair won 8-5 in their first match, then took an 8-4 victory in their second. They lost 8-2 in the finals to Transylvania.

Adam Van Zee (FR/Logansport, IN/Logansport) and Adrian Starnes added a third place finish at number three doubles to the Wabash team score. After winning their first match by default, they lost 8-5 to Transylvania before returning with an 8-4 win over Wittenberg in the finals.

Wabash finished with 47 points, behind Transylvania (56 points) and Ohio Wesleyan (51 points). Wittenberg (28 points), Rose-Hulman (26 points), Anderson (19), Earlham (15), and Hanover (10) rounded out the team scoring.
