The Wabash swimming team took first place at the 2001 University of Indianapolis Invitational, defending its 2000 title.
The Little Giant tankers took first place in five events, including two of the four relays. Junior R.J. Morgan (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) took first place in the 100-yard backstroke with a season-best time of 54.18. He also put his best time of the year on the board in the 200 backstroke, finishing first with a time of 1:58.6. He also teamed with Craig Haupert (Cedar Lake, IN/Lowell), Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Ben Long (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) to place first in the 200 medley relay. The four combined to finish in 1:38.61. They also won the first event of the Invitational, the 400-yard medley relay, with a time of 3:38.62. Morgan finished fourth overall in the individual standings with 56 points.
Haupert took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.24, finishing just ahead of teammate Jon-Myckle Price (Logansport, IN/Logansport). Price touched just two seconds behind at 1:02.53.
Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) was third in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.13), Dean Fox (Aurora, IN/South Dearborn) took second in the 200 individual medley (2:04.64) ahead of Price who was third (2:05.67). Sean Gallagher (Lawrence, KS/Freestate) took second in the 1650 free (17:27.06) with Gary Mineart (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville) taking third in the event (17:37.37). Collins added third-place finish in the 400-yard IM (4:24.38) and a second in the 500 free (4:54.17). Price also added a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:16.62). Paul Meyer (Indianapolis, IN/Broad Ripple) took second in the 200 butterfly (2:05.84).
