Blocks Not Enough For Wabash

Ten blocked shots by the Little Giant defense were not enough as Wittenberg came to Chadwick Court and handed Wabash a 66-51 defeat on Wednesday night.

The Wittenberg defense held the Little Giants to 28-percent shooting in the first half and 36-percent for the game. Wabash could manage only one three-pointer, going 1-of-13 for 7-percent.

Wabash jumped out to a 10-2 lead before the Tigers answered by holding the Little Giants scoreless for nine minutes. Wittenberg used the shutout to take a 19-11 lead with only a Jesse Burgess (Camby, IN/Mooresville) free throw changing the scoreboard tally for Wabash.

The Little Giants cut the lead to seven at the half, but saw the Tigers push it to 13 with 12 minutes remaining in the game. Wabash would get as close as five, but B.J. Harris had the answer to each Wabash run. Harris led all players with 26 points inside for the Tigers. Add to that a perfect night from the free throw line, including hitting four straight in the final two minutes, and it all added up to a Tiger win.

Joe DesJean (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) led Wabash with 16 points and five blocked shots. Ryan Short (Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian) photo above) recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The ten blocked shots in the game for Wabash is just two short of the school's single game record.

Wabash is 7-9 for the year, 5-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The Little Giants travel to Oberlin on Saturday for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
