Five Innings Lead To OWU Baseball Sweep over Wabash

Five innings in Delaware, Ohio became the difference for the Wabash baseball team on Sunday against the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops. OWU swept the Sunday portion of the weekend series with 20-7 and 16-9 victories over the Little Giants.

Wabash jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first game, only to see the Bishops plate 11 runs in their half of the third and nine runs in the home half of the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Game two saw Wabash take a 2-0 lead after the first half-inning, but a six-spot by Ohio Wesleyan in its portion of the first gave the Bishops a 6-2 lead. The Little Giants rallied for four runs in the top of the third, but OWU answered with four in the third and four more runs in the fourth to cement the Sunday sweep.

Mike Mack (SR/Butler, IN/Eastside) went 3-for-5 from the plate on Sunday with a double, two home runs, and eight RBIs. Bill Goff (JR/Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) cracked a home run while going 2-for-3 for the day. Dan Matusik (SR/Highland, IN/Highland) added a home run and two RBIs for the Little Giants.

Wabash falls to 11-14 for the season. The Little Giants, now 2-6 in North Coast Athletic Conference action, will take a break from conference play when they travel to Indianapolis to play Butler University on Tuesday afternoon.
