The Wabash College tennis team participated in the annual Great Lakes Colleges Association Tennis Tournament over the weekend. The Little Giants lost their opening match against Denison University 4-2 before rallying in the second match to defeat Albion 4-3. Wabash lost to the host Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday 5-0 in the finals.
Mike Lynch (SR/Evansville, IN/Evansville North) and Hadi Motiee (SR/Muncie, IN/Burris) took an 8-6 victory in doubles play against Denison in the opening match. Lynch was the lone singles winner for Wabash, claiming a 7-5, 6-4 victory at number one singles. Adam Van Zee (FR/Logansport, IN/Logansport) and Adrian Starnes (FR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) secured the doubles point for the Little Giants with an 8-3 win at number three doubles.
Both doubles teams opened with wins against Albion in the second match of the tournament. Lynch and Motiee took an 8-4 win at number two doubles while Van Zee and Starnes earned an 8-5 victory. Lynch defeated Albion's Dave Swan at number one singles (7-6 (2), 6-2). Van Zee added a win at number five singles (2-6, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3). Motiee also rallied after losing his opening set to take a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at number three singles.
Wabash will play Ohio Wesleyan University on Thursday, April 15 at 4:30 p.m. at the Collett Tennis Center. The match was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, April 17 at noon.
