Thinclads Finish Eighth at Millikin Track and Field Classic

The Wabash College track and field team finished eighth out of 14 teams at the 2004 Millikin Track and Field Classic on Saturday.

Sophomore Ethan Paul (Evansville, IN/Reitz Memorial) was the top individual finisher for the Little Giants. He earned his best finish of the season with a second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:42.15. Freshman Eric Morris (Ft. Wayne, IN/Ft. Wayne Snider) added a third place finish in the discus with a throw of 144 feet, seven inches. Junior Sean Gerold (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsvill) was eighth in discus with a toss of 133 feet, five inches.

Nathan Bates (FR/Ossian, IN/Norwell) took fourth in the 400-meter dash (49.74). Teammate Wes Jacks (JR/West Lafayetee, IN/Harrison) was seventh in the same event with a time of 51.03.

Bates and Jacks joined with Jason Lloyd (JR/Bolingbrook, IL/Hales Franciscan) and Steve Cottom (JR/Rosedale, IN/Riverton Parke) to take third in the 4 X 400-meter relay. The quartet ran the race in 3:24.75, just one second behind the winning team from Calvin College.

The Wabash Invitational will be the next event on the Little Giants' schedule. The meet, which also serves as an NJCAA Super-Regional, will be held on Friday, April 23 and Saturday, April 24 at the J. Owen Huntsman Track.
