The Wabash College tennis team finished eighth at the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Tournament, held Saturday and Sunday at Oberlin College. Wabash lost 4-0 to top-seeded Kenyon College in the opening match. The Little Giants lost 4-2 to Wittenberg in the second round, then dropped a 4-3 decision against Ohio Wesleyan in the finals.
Seniors Constantine Alexander (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo) and Mike Lynch (Evansville, IN/Evansville North) won the only match against the Lords in the opener. The pair combined for an 8-5 win at number one doubles. They stayed perfect for the weekend, taking an 8-6 win at number one doubles against Wittenberg and an 8-6 victory against Ohio Wesleyan in the finals.
The Little Giants took the doubles point to open the second round match against Wittenberg. Nathan Cain (JR/Columbus, IN/Columbus North) and Cameron Starnes (SR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) were 8-2 winners at number doubles, while freshmen Adrian Starnes (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) and Adam Van Zee (Logansport, IN/Logansport) took an 8-4 win at number three doubles. Lynch would pick up the only victory in singles play for Wabash against Wittenberg, earning a 6-3, 6-4 win at number one singles.
Wabash claimed the doubles point again in the final match against OWU when Adrian Starnes and Van Zee won 8-6 at third doubles to go with Lynch and Alexander’s victory at first doubles. Lynch took a 6-3, 6-2 win at number singles, while Cain added a 6-3, 6-0 win at number three singles. But Ohio Wesleyan would claim the rest of the matchups to take a 4-3 victory.
Wabash finishes the season with an overall record of 9-17.
