The Wabash College baseball team produced seven hits on Tuesday night, but couldn’t convert those hits into runs as the Little Giants lost 4-1 to the Franklin College Grizzlies in the season finale at Victory Field in Indianapolis.
The Little Giants stranded 12 base runners, including five in the first three innings and a bases load chance in the fourth. Senior Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside) finished his Wabash career with two of the Little Giants’ seven hits. North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week Chris Sides (SO/Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) had two hits, as well.
Wabash trailed 2-0 after five innings before scratching for its only run in the bottom of the fifth. Mack singled to center to open the inning, then scored on an RBI double by Sides to the left-center field gap. The Grizzlies would answer with two runs in the top of the seventh to secure their third win in four outings between the two schools at Victory Field.
Senior Milton Neuenschwander (Berne, IN/South Adams) pitched an inning for the Little Giants as the starter in his final appearance in a Wabash uniform. Sophomore Travis Moore (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) went six innings in relief, striking out four while allowing only four hits and two earned runs. Freshman Jared Tarney (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) threw the final two innings, striking out three Grizzlies without allowing a hit or a walk.
Wabash finishes the season with a record of 16-24.
