Jason Hutchison has been named the head tennis coach at Wabash College in an announcement made by Director of Athletics Vernon Mummert.
"Jason will do an outstanding job rebuilding our tennis program," said Mummert. "I know he will not only be a tremendous coach, but will bring energy and excitement to the recruiting process."
Hutchison, a 2003 graduate of Western Illinois University, is a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association and the United States Tennis Association. He was ranked number one in the Southeast Region in singles play and number two in doubles play by the USTA. Prior to coming to Wabash, Hutchison served as a professional tennis instructor at the Pine Log Park Tennis Center in Conyers, Georgia, where he developed a junior tennis program in addition to coaching numerous adult teams. Several of his teams reached the city championships and advanced in the playoffs.
Hutchison graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1995, where he played tennis for four seasons and helped the Athenians to three sectional titles. He earned All-State Honorable Mention honors as a senior before heading to Western Illinois, where he served as the tennis team captain during the 1998-99 season.
"I'm looking forward to working with student-athletes who stress academic excellence while also continuing their tennis career," said Hutchison. "The challenge will be to make certain that our players enjoy the experience of getting a solid liberal arts education and their experience as a member of the Wabash College tennis team."
Hutchison will begin his duties in August. He and his wife, Sarah, reside in Crawfordsville.
