Rick Cavanaugh ’76 wasn’t sure why the old man with goggles and a cardboard sled was calling out to his son, Sean, as they walked the bottom of the ski slope at Steamboat Springs, Colorado during spring break.
"Hey, do you go to Wabash?"
Cavanaugh realized the man had glimpsed Sean’s Wabash sweatshirt. He and Sean introduced themselves to Harold Miner, Wabash Class of 1946 and the oldest entrant in a sled race that has become a Steamboat Springs tradition.
At the end of each ski season, dozens bring hastily-though-creatively-crafted sleds to compete in the Cardboard Classic.
"I thought you might enjoy seeing some photos of Harold racing at Steamboat," Rick said when he emailed these shots to us. "He made it down the hill in his Shoo Fly Special in one of the faster times. Some Little Giant!"
