Wabash Harriers Take Fifth at Hokum Karem

The Red Pack opened the 2004 the same way it has the past 41 years, hosting the annual Hokum Karem cross country relay race. The Little Giants finished tied with Grace College for fifth place out of 10 teams.

Dennis Frazee (SO/Griffith, IN/Calumet) and Ben Bly (FR/Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North) combined for a 10 th place finish with a time of 30:04. The race features pairs of runners alternating three one-mile loops, then is scored with the top three groups for school figuring into the team scoring. Freshman Geoff Lamberg (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) and junior Charles Wohlhuter (Wheaton, IL/Wheaton-Warrenville South) added 22 points with their finish after combining for a time of 31:31. Junior Ethan Paul (Evansville, IN/Reitz Memorial) and sophomore Dustin Beck (New Carlisle, IN/New Prairie) completed the team scoring for Wabash with a 24th place finish (31:36).

DePauw University won the men’s competition with nine points. The University of Indianapolis was second with 28 points. Bethel College took third (37 points), with Huntington College finishing fourth (43 points). Marian (49 points) and Goshen (65) rounded out the team scoring. Danville Area Community College and IU-Southeast did field a complete team. The Tigers swept the top spot on the podium for the day, winning the women’s race with a total of eight points.

The Little Giants will open the tradition portion of the season on Saturday, September 11 at the Great Lakes Colleges Association Cross Country Championship at Oberlin College at 11 a.m.
