Knights Hold Little Giants at the Gates In Michigan Soccer Match

By Andrew McGlothlen

Grand Rapids, MI—Wabash College suffered their second defeat this weekend, losing 1-0 to the Calvin College Knights.

The only goal came from a breakaway shot by Nick Capisciolto after a return punt from the Calvin goalie, Joe Westra, in the 14th minute. Morgan Patchell (SR/Grand Rapids, MI/Loy Norrix) had several good chances to score in the first half and a great shot by Chris Serak (FR/Avon, IN/Avon) nearly tied the game in the first half. After the half, Wabash came out strong and a shot by Ben Esbaum nearly tied the game but went just right of the post. With seven minutes left in the game, Patchell again nearly tied up the game in front of the goal, but the shot was saved by the Calvin goalie.

The Wabash team played a clearly better defense than against Hope as they managed to stop 14 shot attempts in the second half, and only half of those were saved by the goalie, Will McAdams (JR/Carmel, IN/Carmel). They also managed to stop eleven plays from the corner.

Wabash (0-4) will play at Millikin on Wednesday afternoon.
