The Wabash College soccer team left Decatur, Illinois with a 2-2 double overtime tie on Wednesday night against the Millikin University Big Blue.
The first half featured a small amount of rain, a steady wind, and a Little Giant goal in the 44th minute. Jeff Diebel (JR/Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) took a pass from senior co-captain Tom Reifenberg (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) and blasted home a shot to give Wabash the lead.
Wabash held that lead until seven minutes into the second half. Millikin's Tim Wingenbach weaved around goalie Will McAdams (JR/Carmel, IN/Carmel) and put his shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. Ben Lewis gave Millikin a 2-1 lead in the 63rd minute with a header off of a rebound shot that came off the crossbar from a previous header.
The Little Giants came roaring back, tying the match at 2-2 in the 83rd minute on a restart. Diebel lifted a shot over the wall of Millikin players and grazed the crossbar before watching his shot settle in the goal. Neither team could manage in a goal in the two 10-minute overtime periods.
The tie moves Wabash to 0-4-1 for the season. The Little Giants return to Mud Hollow Field on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match against Hanover College.
