The Little Giants opened the dual meet by setting a new pool record and beating the NCAA provisional time on the way to a first-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. R.J. Morgan (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) (photo), Craig Haupert (Cedar Lake, IN/Lowell), Brandon Peacock (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), and Ben Long (Zionsville, IN/Zionsville) took first with a time of 1:35.96.
Wabash continued the team effort with a one-two sweep in the 1000 freestyle as Mineart took first place with a time of 10:03.85, the quickest time turned in this season by Wabash. Sean Gallagher Lawrence, KS/Freestate) was second, finishing in 10:05.88, his quickest time of the year.
Morgan added individual firsts in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke. His 53.13 time in the 100 backstroke topped the NCAA provisional cut time and was his fastest time this year. The junior set a pool record and season-best time in the 200 with a time of 1:55.72.
Haupert took first in the 100 breaststroke with a pool-record setting time of 59.76. Long was first in the 50 free, also setting a best time for the Natatorium with by finishing in 21.72.
Sophomore James Cloud (Ladoga, IN/Southmont) had his best time of the year in the 200 breaststroke. His time of 2:12.04 set the top mark in the Class of 1950 Natatorium this year. Nick Collins (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) also took first place in the 500-yard freestyle race (4:48.66), a season-best time.. Collins also set a season-best time in the 200-yard freestyle with his second-place time of 1:47.02. Meyer also set a season-best mark in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:59.30, earning second place in the event. Long also added a season-best performance in the 100 freestyle with a second-place finish in 48.61.
The final event of the night, the 400-yard frestyle relay, was the final season-best performance of the evening for the little Giants. The Wabash team of Long, Morgan, Collins, and Jon DeSmet (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) took second-place with a time of 3:14.09.
The Little Giants finished the year 6-2 in dual meets with the victory, and await the final cuts for the NCAA Championship meet in March.
