Wabash Soccer Team Can't Hang On Against No. 6 OWU

The Wabash soccer team stayed even with Ohio Wesleyan University for 48 minutes, but the Little Giants were outscored 2-0 in the remainder of the match to give the sixth-ranked Bishops a 3-1 victory on Thursday night.

Ohio Wesleyan jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a goal by Jeff Fisher in the 34th minute. Wabash trailed by that same score until three minutes into the second period. Freshman Chris Serak (Avon, IN/Avon) found a loose ball in front of the OWU net and blasted a shot past goalkeeper Chris Brown to tie the match at 1-1. The goal was Serak's third of the season, tying him for second on the Little Giant team in goals for the season.

It would be the only shot on goal for the Little Giants in the match. Fisher answered for the Bishops with his second goal of the night, this time on a breakaway in the 69th minute to hit the game-winner. Ryan Martin, who assisted on the second Fisher goal, added a third OWU goal in the final minute of the match.

Wabash goalie Will McAdams (JR/Carmel, IN/Carmel) had six saves in the contest. Serak and Jeff Diebel (JR/Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) each finished with two of Wabash's seven shots.

The Little Giants fall to 3-7-1 with the loss, 1-3 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The road trip doesn't get any easier for Wabash. The Little Giants will play fourth-ranked Wooster on Saturday afternoon.
