Little Giant Kickers Pick Up Double Overtime at Wittenberg

A Jeff Diebel (JR/F/Ft. Wayne, IN/Homestead) cross in front of the net carromed off of a Wittenberg defender and into the net, giving Wabash a 1-0 double overtime victory over the Tigers Wednesday night in Springfield, Ohio.

The win marked the second consecutive year that the Little Giants took a double overtime win over the Tigers. Wabash defeated Wittenberg 2-1 in two extra periods last year.

"It was a shame the game had to end on that kind of a play because both teams played a great match," said Wabash head coach George Perry. "But I'm so proud of my guys playing hard every second of the match. We came away with a hard-fought win."

Junior goalkeeper Will McAdams (Carmel, IN/Carmel) had nine saves in the shutout victory, his second of the season.

"Will played an outstanding game," said Perry. "He made three huge saves on tough shots by Wittenberg. He made some outstanding stops."

Wabash was outshot 20-8 in the contest, but the Little Giants had four shots that rang off of the post after getting past the Wittenberg goalkeeper. One shot by Gary Simkus (FR/MF/Highland, IN/Highland) hit the post and nearly spun into the goal before being cleared by Tiger defense.

The victory was the first Wabash road win of the season in North Coast Athletic Conference play. The Little Giants (4-8-1, 2-4-0 NCAC) travel to Meadville, Pennsylvania Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. match against Allegheny College.
