Tankers Take Fourth at NCAC Relays

The Wabash swimming and diving team opened the 2004-05 season with a fourth place finish at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays over the weekend. The Little Giants scored 112 points, trailing Denison (186), Kenyon (156), and Allegheny (128). Hiram (84), Wittenberg (76), Ohio Wesleyan (42), Oberlin (40), and Wooster (26) rounded out the team scoring.

Freshman Chad Damitz (Kokomo, IN/Kokomo), senior Brad Williams (Columbus, IN/Columbus North), sophomore Tony Caldwell (Washington, IA/Washington), and junior Matt Perkins (Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg) led the Little Giants to second in the 200-yard backstroke relay, touching out in 1:42.84. Perkins, Colin Fahey (SR/Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Kyle Weaver (SO/Portland, IN/Jay County), and Damitz added one of three third place finishes for the Little Giants in the 200 medley relay. The quartet finished with a time of 1:42.55.

The Wabash team of Perkins, Weaver, Damitz, and Michael Hewitt (SO/Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) took third in the 200 butterfly relay (1:40.60). Perkins and Fahey joined Hewitt and his brother, Ben Hewitt (SR/Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) to take third in the 400 individual medley, finishing in 3:57.60.

The Little Giants took fourth in the 200 breaststroke relay. Fahey, Ben Hewitt, Andrew McKone (SO/Glastonbury, CT/Glastonbury), and Kyle O'Keefe (FR/Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central) finished in 2:00.72. Fahey combined with Perkins, Damitz, and Weaver for a fourth place finish in the 200 free relay (1:31.30).

Wabash will participate in its first dual meet of the season Saturday morning against Transylvania University. The meet begins at 11 a.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.
