Little Giant Tankers Split Double Dual Home Meet

The Wabash swimming and diving team split a double-dual meet Saturday, defeating Transylvania 131-74 while losing to Carthage 110-93 in the Class of 1950 Natatorium.

The Little Giants opened the meet with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. Chad Damitz (FR/Kokomo, IN/Kokomo), Colin Fahey (SR/Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard), Matt Perkins (JR/Indianapolis, IN/Brownsburg), and Kyle Weaver (SO/Portland, IN/Jay County) touched first in the event with a time of 1:40.05. Wabash picked up another first one event later when freshman Michael Belanger (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) won the 1000-yard freestyle, touching in 10:14.68. The newcomer added another first place finish later in the meet, winning the 500 free (4:59.95).

Weaver and Damitz finished second (22.60) and third (22.67), respectively, in the 50 free. Senior Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) added another second place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:04.88. His brother, Michael Hewitt (SO/Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) took second in the 200 butterfly.

Perkins and Damitz gave Wabash another 2-3 finish, this time in 100 free. Perkins earned second after swimming the race in 49.49. Damitz was a fraction behind with a time of 50.02 for third place.

Ben Hewitt followed Belanger's 500 free win with a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.91), setting the stage for the final relay of the day. Wabash went out on a high note, winning the 200 free relay with a time of 1:30.41 by the team of Fahey, Michael Hewitt, Perkins, and Weaver.

Wabash returns to the water Friday, November 5 at 6 p.m. in the Class of 1950 Natatorium against Illinois Wesleyan University.
