In the opening game the Little Giants trailed 1-0 after two innings before tying the game in the third as Garrett Alson scored on a bases loaded walk to Brandon Candiano. With only one out, it looked as if the Little Giants would be ready for a big inning.
But the Wabash bats went as cold as the Florida weather had turned. Playing in chilling 25-30 mph wind gusts, the Little Giants could not get a ball out of the infield, finishing the third inning tied at 1-1. That would be the last time Wabash put a batter on base, going down in order in the next four innings.
The Purple Raiders scored two runs in the sixth inning to earn the victory. Jake Martin took the loss, working seven innings while allowing only four hits and one walk and striking out six batters.
In game number two, it was the first inning that spelled doom for Wabash. Mount Union scored three runs in the bottom of the first of off Scott Adams to take the early lead before the Little Giants could respond.
Alson opened the Wabash portion of the third inning by drawing a walk. Shortstop Matt Carlson followed with another walk before both runners scored on a Candiano single to right field. Trailing by one run, Wabash threatened to tie the game in the sixth when Josh Stanton opened the the inning with a double. That's as far as Stanton would go as the Little Giants went down in order with a short popup to right, followed by two strikeouts.
Scott Adams took the loss for Wabash. The senior worked six innings, allowing seven hits and two walks. Adams added six strikeouts.
The Little Giants are now even for the season at 2-2. Wabash continues its spring break play in Florida with a double-header against Chowan on Wednesday.
