Healy Sets All-Time Win Mark; Grapplers Finish 1-3 at Olivet Duals

The Wabash wrestling team took a 26-12 victory over SUNY-Cortland at Saturday's Olivet Wrestling Duals, but it would be the only victory out of four duals for the Little Giants. Wabash would lose to Wartburg (38-9), Lycoming (19-15), and Wisconsin-Stevens Point (22-12). Senior All-American Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) (right) would finish the day 4-0 to pass Chris Ervin '91 for the all-time victories record in school history.

Healy, 5-0 for the season, recorded his 120th career win with an 8-5 victory in a dual match against Wisconsin-Stevens Point to pass Ervin, a member of the Wabash Athletic Hall of Fame and current Crawfordsville High School wrestling coach.

The Little Giants opened against Wartburg. Senior Drew McCoy (Greenfield, IN/New Palestine) and Healy were the only Wabash wrestlers to earn wins in their individual matches. McCoy battled to a 3-2 victory at 149 pounds. Healy picked up his second win of the year with a pin, taking his 174-pound opponent to the mat at the 3:42 mark of the match.

Wabash rebounded to defeat SUNY-Cortland in the second dual. After a forfeit victory by senior Phu Hong (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central), sophomore Garrett Pino (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North) took a decisive 11-3 win at 133 pounds. Adam Miller (SR/Pendleton, IN/Pendleton Heights), the Little Giants' 157-pounder, won a 10-5 decision in his match, followed by a 6-2 win by 165-pounder Kevin Meyer (SR/Columbus, IN/Columbus North).

Healy moved to within one win of tying Ervin for the all-time wins record at Wabash after pinning his opponent at 4:54 at 174 pounds. Freshman Garrett Thiel (Lowell, IN/Lowell) added an 8-0 win at 197 pounds to complete the victory.

Hong started the match against Lycoming with a 6-2 win at 125 pounds. Pino won his second consecutive match, taking a 5-3 win at 133 pounds. Miller also made it two in row with a 12-6 victory at 157 pounds. Ryan Pritchard (SO/Britt, IA/Britt) earned his first win of the season at 184 pounds with a 3-1 victory.

But it was the 5-0 victory by Healy that tied him with Ervin for the Wabash career wins record. Hong would earn a 3-0 win at 125 pounds, as would McCoy (5-1) at 149 pounds. Miller won his third straight with a hard-fought 3-2 win at 157 pounds.

The Little Giants return to the mat December 1 in a dual meet against the University of Chicago. The meet at Chadwick Court will begin at 7 p.m.
