Healy Takes 174-Pound Title at ONU Wrestling Invite

Senior Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) went 5-0 over the weekend to win the 174-pound title at the 2004 Ohio Northern University Wrestling Invitational. Healy and fellow senior Drew McCoy (Greenfield, IN/New Palestine),who finished eighth at 149 pounds, helped Wabash to a 10th place finish in the final team standings.

Healy opened with a 13-2 major decision in his first match, followed by his only pin of the tournament at 1:12 into match number two. Two more major decisions, both by 10-2 final scores, sent him to the championship match. Healy dispatched third-seeded Jason Radtke from Gannon University by a final score of 7-1 to finish in first place.

McCoy lost his opening match at 149 pounds, but rallied for three straight wins in the consolation bracket, including a 2-1 victory over fifth-seeded Kyle Burkett from Cumberland University. But a loss to eventual fifth-place finisher Joe Patterson put McCoy up against Mark Zimmerman in the finals. Zimmerman took a 5-4 victory in the last match of the tournament, earning McCoy an eighth place finish to equal his seed coming into the tournament while giving the Little Giants 52 points in the team scoring.

Wabash will conclude the 2004 portion of the season Sunday at the Purdue University Duals.
