OT Match Sends Wabash to Win over Norwich in 2005 Budd Whitehill DIII Duals

Wabash battled to a 20-19 victory over Norwich College in the opening round of the 2005 Budd Whitehill Division III Duals Friday morning. Sophomore Steve Kasten (Winamac, IN/Winamac) took a 3-2 victory in overtime at heavyweight to give Wabash the one-point win.

The Little Giants, seeded 10th based on their national ranking of 29th in the latest Brute/Adidas National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, picked up five wins against Norwich, seeded seventh and ranked 21st with a record of 2-1 in dual meets.

Senior Phu Hong (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) opened with a 7-3 victory at 125 pounds. Senior Kevin Meyer (Columbus, IN/Columbus North) earned a 7-4 win at 165 pounds. Chris Healy (SR/Jasper, IN/Jasper) was awarded a technical fall after leading 18-1 in his 174-pound match.

Sophomore Will Clarke (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) setup the victory for the Little Giants with a pin at 5:34 in the 184-pound match. Kasten's overtime win puts Wabash against number two seed and seventh-ranked Ithaca College Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

Wabash moves to 3-4 in dual meets with the win.

197 pounds - Silver Oghayore (N) defeated Garrett Thiel (W) 13-6
285 pounds - Steve Kasten (W) defeated Sean Rockwell (N) 3-2 in ovetime.
