Tankers Fall to Washington University in National Ranked Team Dual Meet

Wabash opened the home portion of the 2005 swimming and diving season ranked seventh in the latest CollegeSwimming.com poll, facing the 10th-ranked Washington University of St. Louis Battling Bears at the Class of 1950 Natatorium. Saturday it was Washington University coming away with the 137-102 victory over the Little Giants.

The Hewitt brothers were the only two Wabash swimmers to touch first iin individual events n the dual meet. Sophomore Michael Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) took the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:03.71. Senior Ben Hewitt (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) added a first place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:17.82.

The Little Giants took the top two spots in the final relay, the 400-yard freestyle relay. Michael Belanger (FR/Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), Chad Damitz (FR/Kokomo, IN/Kokomo), Kyle Weaver (SO/Portland, IN/Jay County), and Colin Fahey (SR/Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) won the event with a time of 3:18.24. The quartet of Zach Manker (JR/Grand Rapids, MI/Northview), Chris Bly (JR/Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North), John Kasey (Evansville, IN/Reitz Memorial), and Barren Hewetson (FR/Beford, IN/Bedford-North Lawrence) took second with a time of 3:43.73.

Belanger added two second place finishes. He finished the 1650 free in 17:05.37, and touched second in the 500 free (4:59.38). Fahey was second in the 200 free (1:49.71) and the 100 free (49.14), as was Weaver in the 50 free with a time of 22.42.

Freshman Clayton Craig earned a second place finish on the one-meter board with a total score of 153.55, while teammate Howard Bailey (SR/Moss Point, MS/Moss Point) took second on the three-meter board (162.55).
