Records Fall at Wabash Alumni Indoor Track and Field Invitational

Wabash runners set three meet and fieldhouse records at Saturday's 2005 Wabash Alumni Indoor Track and Field Invitational in the Knowling Fieldhouse. No team score was kept at the event.

The Little Giants opened the day with a record-setting performance in the 4 X 200-meter relay. The quartet of Keith Clayton (SO/Colorado Springs, CO/Fountain Valley School), Tim Rickard (FR/Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso), Mike Russell (Terre Haute, IN/North Vigo), and Nathan Bates (SO/Ossian, IN/Norwell) won the race with a time of 1:33.11, besting the meet and fieldhouse record set by Wabash in 2002 by 7/10ths of a second.

Zach Eichel (SR/Columbus, IN/Columbus North) erased another Alumni meet record. He won the 5000-meter run in 16:32.5, eight seconds faster than the meet mark set last year by Manchester's Marshall Magara.

Clayton put together the final record-setting run of the day for the Little Giants, winning the 200-meter run with a meet record time of 23.56. Russell was second, also topping the previous top meet time (23.67).

Bates won the 400-meter in 51.79 and Geoff Lambert (FR/Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) added a top finish in the 800-meter run (2:05.03). Jared Jackson (SO/Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) was the winner of the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, six inches.

The Little Giants also topped the meet mark in the 4 X 400-meter relay, finishing second with a time of 3:34.00.

Wabash will participate in the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays Saturday at Denison University. The Little Giants are the defending Relays champion.
