National Study of Liberal Arts Education – Application Instructions

Applicants must complete and submit each of the three sections listed below to be considered for participation in the National Study of Liberal Arts Education. Review the participation information sheet for details about institutional and student participation in NSLAE, along with information about our data collection methods. We will begin reviewing applications May 1, 2005.

  1. Cover Sheet – Fax or mail the completed cover sheet, including the required signatures, to:

  3. Application Form – Send this completed application form as an email attachment to Charles Blaich, Directory of Inquiries at nationalstudy@wabash.edu.

  4. Narrative Responses – Answer the three questions below (also found on the last page of the application form) and send as an email attachment to Charles Blaich, Director of Inquiries at nationalstudy@wabash.edu.
      
    • Briefly explain why your institution wants to participate in this study. Emphasize how being part of this study could enhance the learning environment for your students.
    • How is liberal arts education defined on your campus?
    • What programs, institutional structures, pedagogical practices, etc., most powerfully support liberal arts education on your campus? 

We will select approximately 14 institutions for participation in the National Study of Liberal Arts Education. Preliminary selection criteria include:

  • Broad range of institutions
  • Engagement in one or more of the seven outcomes
  • Areas of liberal arts focus
  • Diversity of the student body
  • Institutional characteristics indicating the study will have a positive impact
