Four Double-Figure Scores Lead Little Giants Past Oberlin

Four starters scored in double figures, leading the Wabash basketball team to a 69-60 win at Oberlin Saturday afternoon in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Junior guard Kyle Medeiros (Indianapolis, IN/Ben Davis) led the Little Giants with five three-pointers for 15 points. Junior center Kyle Coffey (Greenwood, IN/Center Grove) chipped in 13 points. Gary Simkus (FR/F/Highland, IN/Highland) added 12, and Caleb Lyttle (JR/F/Sullivan, IN/Sullivan) tossed in 10 points.

Wabash jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never trailed again, building up a 14-point lead in the first half on one of Medeiros’ treys. The Yeomen trimmed the advantage to seven at the half and had it down to two points with 10 minutes remaining in the contest. But three free throws by Coffey pushed the lead back to five, then free throws by Lyttle and another three by Medeiros made it a 48-38 contest in favor of Wabash.

The Little Giants survived another Oberlin run that trimmed the advantage back to four points, but Simkus canned a three-pointer that started a 10-4 run for Wabash, eventually leading the nine-point victory.

The Wabash bench outscored the Yeomen reserves 14-3 to help the cause, led by Andrew Zimmer (FR/F/Hobart, IN/Hobart) with five points. Wabash outrebounded Oberlin 38-23, including a 13-6 edge on the offensive glass.

The Little Giants (10-9, 7-3 NCAC) return to Chadwick Court Wednesday night to play 11th-ranked Wittenberg at 7:30 p.m.
