Little Giant Grapplers Place Four, Team Takes Eighth at Wheaton Invite

Four Wabash College wrestlers finished in the top-eight in their respective weight classes at the Pete Willson Wheaton College Wrestling Invitational over the weekend. The Little Giant team finished eighth out of 27 teams in the final overall standings.

Senior Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) won the 174-pound title. Healy, ranked number one in Division III at 174, went 4-0 with two major decisions on his way to the championship. He opened with an 8-0 win over Heidelberg's Tim Maxworthy, then defeated eighth-seeded Eric Foster from North Central 19-6. Healy advanced to the finals with a 3-0 victory over fifth seed Ben Thiem from Wisconsin-Parkside. His final win was a 5-3 decision against the second-seeded wrestler from John Carroll, Mark Hawald.

Senior Phu Hong (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) took second place at 125 pounds. He started with a 9-6 win against Central's Peter Howard, then advanced to the finals with a 7-6 win against third-seeded John Rombca from Wisconsin-Whitewater. Hong's winning streak ended with a 12-4 loss to the top seed in the tournament, Wisconsin-La Crosse's Jordan Kolinski.

Will Clarke (SO/Indianapolis, IN/North Central) was sixth in the 184-pound weight class. Clarke went 4-3 for the weekend. He lost his opening match before ripping off a streak of four consecutive wins, including a pin against Wheaton's Ian Dye 1:32 into their match. Clarke lost 6-3 to Millikin's Joe Krugler in the final match of the tournament.

Garrett Pino (SO/Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence North) was eight at 133 pounds. Pino was 2-3 for the tournament.

Wabash will participate in the Midstate Wrestling League Championships Saturday at Rose-Hulman
