Tennis Team Drops Matches to Wooster, St. Joseph's

The Wabash tennis team lost two matches Saturday at the Collett Tennis Center, falling 7-0 to the College of Wooster in the morning session. The Little Giants lost 6-1 to St. Joseph's College in the afternoon.

The Little Giants battled in the doubles matches against the Fighting Scots in the morning matches. Adam Van Zee (Logansport, IN/Logansport) and Nathan Cain (Columbus, IN/Columbus North) forced extra sets at number one doubles before falling 9-8 (7-5) to Alec Garnett and Ted Hickey. Cain would force an extra set in his number two singles match, but could not come out on top while suffering a 7-5, 6-1 loss. Wooster would eventually sweep all of the matches to take the 7-0 victory.

Wabash opened with two wins in the doubles matches against St. Joseph's to take the first team point of the match. Adrian Starnes (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) and Cain combined for a dominating 8-1 victory at number two doubles. Dan Petrie (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) and Brett Bishop (Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) were also equal to the task, winning 8-2 at number three doubles.

But the Little Giants would not earn a single point in singles play, falling 6-1 to the Pumas.

Wabash is 1-5 for the season. The Little Giants are off until Monday, February 28 when they will play Anderson University at the Collett Center.
