Petty Gets 400th win; Little Giants Advance

Mac Petty’s 400th career coaching win at Wabash College sent the Little Giants to the NCAC semifinals for the fourth consecutive year.

The Little Giants (14-12) will face Wittenberg (22-3) in Friday’s semifinals after defeating Ohio Wesleyan, 62-52, Tuesday night.

Petty collected his 400th win in his 29th season leading the Little Giants.

I didn’t even know what the number was until Brent (Harris) said something to me," Petty said. "It’s just been a joy to work at Wabash College with the people here and the community of Crawfordsville, to raise a family and live here. This is kind of icing on the cake and you can’t do that unless you have fine players and guys who play like these guys did tonight."

Petty is now 400-325 at Wabash College.

The Little Giants built a 30-21 halftime lead and twice built the margin to 18 in the second half. Petty credited strong rebounding, including 17 offensive boards, and Wabash’s season-long effort on defense.

"The intensity was our key word tonight," Petty said "And our defense was superb, just outstanding."

Kyle Coffey and Caleb Lyttle scored 12 each to lead Wabash. Lyttle had a monster game with 12 rebounds, seven on the offensive end. The Little Giants did a nice job on Wesleyan’s leading scorer Ben Chojnacki who scored 23, but no other Bishop reached double figures.
