A Wabash History class will trek to France to look at modern France in the post-World War era.
Students will travel to Paris and see how France has been dedicated to remembering, preserving, or evoking the past. The historical sites will include WWI monuments and battlefields in Picardie, the Chateau of Versailles, the Louvre museum, Napoleon's Tomb, and other Paris sites.
The Wabash men will visit many other famous French landmarks including the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysee, Musee D'Orsay and Notre Dame. Students will be able to identify why certain portions of France's past are currently less recognized - such as France's collaboration government in WWII and France's role in the Holocaust.
In addition, students will be expected to identify how the geographical landscape of Paris has changed and developed since 1850. Students prepared for the experience by reading and researching French history and upon return will have a great understanding of French culture and the country's past.
History professor Michelle Rhoades will lead the Immersion trip as part of History 330.
