Healy Advances, Hong Falls in NCAA First Round Wrestling Action

Chris Healy (Jasper, IN/Jasper) won his opening match at 174 pounds while Phu Hong (Indianapolis, IN/Lawrence Central) lost to the third seed at 125 pounds in the first round of the 2005 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

Healy earned the third seed at Thursday's coaches meeting and opened against Ryan Hagerty of Loras. Healy cruised to a 6-0 win, advancing to wrestle sixth-seeded Mark Hawald from John Carroll. Hawald was a 5-4 winner over unseeded Mick Davis from Pacific in the opening match.

Hong drew third-seed Eddie Murray from Ursinus in the first round, losing 14-5. Hong will wrestle Coe's Ryan Gotto in the second round. Gotto was pinned by sixth-seeded Brian Dempsey in his opener.

The NCAA Championships, hosted by St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota, run through Saturday.
