Linksters Open Season With Fifth-Place Finish at Millikin

The Wabash golf team got the 2005 season underway over the weekend, finishing fifth out of ten teams at the Millikin Spring Opener at Lakeshore Golf Course in Taylorville, Illinois Friday and Saturday.

The Little Giants were fourth after the first day, but couldn't hold off a hard-charging Monmouth team. Wabash shot a 319 in the first round and 325 in the second. Monmouth caught the Little Giants with a 311 on the final day for a 639 two-day total, five strokes better than the 644 posted by Wabash.

Aaron Selby (JR/Crawfordsville, IN/Southmont) tied for ninth place in the final individual standings. He fired an 80 in the opening round, then came back with a 77 on day two for a final score of 157. Kevin Casey (SR/Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) was 14th with a two-day total of 160 (79-81). Elliot Vice (JR/Ladoga, IN/Southmont) was 21st (82-81--163), while J.P. Manalo (SO/Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) finished 27th (78-88--166). Devin Bennett (SO/Genesco, NY/Genesco Central) was 41st (89-86--175).

The Little Giants will play Rose-Hulman in a combination of match and medal play Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Crawfordsville Country Club.
