Little Giant Netters Capture 5-2 Win at Hanover

The Wabash tennis team picked up its fourth win of the season, winning two three-set matches to close out a 5-2 victory at Hanover College Thursday night.

Wabash opened with two wins in doubles play. Brett Bishop (Monticello, IN/Twin Lakes) and Dan Petrie (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) combined for an 8-4 win at number two doubles. Nathan Cain (Columbus, IN/Columbus North) and Josh Paul (Bloomington, IN/Bloomington North) took an 8-2 victory at number three doubles.

Cain won 6-3, 6-3 at number two singles, along with Adrian Starnes’ (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) 6-2, 6-0 victory at number three singles, to put the Little Giants in front 3-1 in the team score. A victory by the Panthers at number four singles tightened the match to one point with five and six singles still on the court.

Both individual matches went to the third set. Bishop took a 6-3 win in the first set before falling 4-6 in the second. He came back to win 10-4 in the third to secure the team win for the Little Giants.

Nathan Mullendore (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) rallied from a 2-6 opening set loss to take a 7-6 (7-3), 10-6 victory at number six single to finish the scoring.

Wabash will travel to DePauw University next Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match.
