One of the country’s leading speakers on Islam and an ambassador for the U.S. to the Islamic world will speak at 8 p.m. in the Lovell Lecture Room of Baxter Hall at Wabash College Thursday evening.
Asma Gull Hasan, 29,the author of Why I am Muslim and American Muslims: A New Generation calls herself a Muslim feminist cowgirl. She was raised in Colorado, daughter of Pakistani immigrants and born in Chicago.
Hasan has been a columnist for The Denver Post and The Pakistan Link newspaper. Her opinion pieces have been published in some of the nation’s largest newspapers, including The New York Times, Dallas Morning News and San Francisco Chronicle. She has been a frequent guest on the Fox News Channel, National Public radio, and many other national media outlets.
The U.S. State Department selected Hasan as an ambassador for public relations to the Islamic world. The Christian Century Magazine called her first book "a ground-breaking portrait" of the growing American Muslim community.
She has spoken across the country at universities and numerous national organizations.
She is an author of youth literature and short stories. She severs as an editor of the monthly online publication, The American Muslim.
She will have a book signing immediately following her speech. Her appearance is sponsored by the Wabash Muslim Student Association.
