Two Run Lead Evaporates in the Sunday Sun for Wabash

Wabash put two runs on the scoreboard in the first three innings, but it was not enough as the ninth-ranked Ohio Wesleyan squad came from behind for the second time in three games, this time taking a 13-4 victory.

The Little Giants jumped on top 1-0 in the second inning when Mike Mack (Butler, IN/Eastside) drove a ball into centerfield that scored Jake Knott (Lafayette, IN/Jefferson) from first when it was misplayed by Ohio Wesleyan. A second run crossed in the third inning when Josh Stanton (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville) hit a bases loaded single to score Garrett Alson (Rensselaer, IN/Rensselaer Central), giving Wabash a 2-0 lead.

Ohio Wesleyan answered with three runs in the fifth, then opened the game up in the sixth with a six-run explosion. Wabash finished with two runs in the ninth inning as pinch-hitter Bob Shaver (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) smacked a single up the middle to score Bryson Renbarger (Converse, IN/Eastern) after Knott had scored on a wild pitch two pitches earlier.

Wabash moves to 6-15, 0-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference Western division. The Little Giants travel to Terre Haute on Tuesday to play a doubleheader against Rose-Hulman. The first game starts at 4 p.m.
