Lambert Earns NCAC Award With First Place Finish at Little State

Wabash freshman Geoff Lambert (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Middle Distance/Distance Runner of the Week after winning the 800-meter run at the 2005 Indiana Little State Meet, held Friday and Saturday at IUPUI. Lambert won the race with a time of 1:53.22, setting the Wabash freshman record while reaching the NCAA "B" cut qualifying mark for the National Championship meet.

Lambert’s win helped Wabash to a ninth-place finish out of 19 teams at the meet. The Little Giants scored 45 points at the two-day event. The University of Indianapolis team won the meet with 110 points. Anderson (94), Taylor (76.50), St. Joseph’s (75), and Bethel (68.50) rounded out the top-five spots. Vincennes (68), DePauw (62), and the University of Southern Indiana (45.50) finished just ahead of the Little Giants.

Lambert’s time is the best by any NCAC runner in the 800 meters this season.

Fellow freshman Mike Russell (Terre Haute, IN/Terre Haute North) finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.33. He also took sixth in the finals of the 100-meter dash (11.48), sixth in the long jump (6.51 meters), and seventh in the high jump (1.85 meters).

Sophomore Nathan Bates (Ossian, IN/Norwell) added a third place finish in the 400-meter dash to the team scoring. Bates ran the one-lap event in 49.08 seconds, his fastest time of the year and fastest among any NCAC runner. Dennis Frazee (Griffith, IN/Calumet) was seventh in the 10,000-meter run with a season-best effort of 32:46.60.

Keith Clayton (Colorado Springs, CO/Fountain Valley School) took fourth place with a time of 55.48 in the 400-meter hurdles.

The Little Giants’ 4 X 400-meter relay team took third place, finishing the race in 3:20.33
