Brumberg's 66 Leads The Field at the 2005 NCAC Golf Championship

Allegheny freshman John Brumberg fired a six-under 66 in the first round of the 2005 North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship Friday at Harrison Hills Golf Course in Attica, Indiana. The Gators finished second in the team scoring after the first day with a total of 298 strokes, six shots back from three-time defending champion Ohio Wesleyan.

Brumberg shot a 32 on the front nine before recording a 34 on the final nine holes. He leads OWU's Justin Schroeder by five strokes for medalist honors. Schroeder was the only other golfer under par, shooting a one-under 71 after 18 holes.

Denison's Craig Eckerle and Doug McCullough from Ohio Wesleyan are tied for third with even-par 72's.

Ohio Wesleyan leads the team scoring with a total of 292. Allegheny is second with a 298. Denison is third with a 303. Wittenberg (309), Wabash (314), and Wooster (316) follow in fourth through sixth. Hiram (344), Kenyon (348), and Oberlin (352) round out the team scoring.

Elliot Vice (Ladoga, IN/Southmont) was the top-scorer for the Little Giants, who are hosting the 2005 league event. The junior fired a 76, tying him for eighth place overall individually. JP Manalo (Ft. Wayne, IN/Bishop Dwenger) was a stroke back with a 77. Clay Koehler (West Lafayette, IN/Harrison) finished with a 79. Kevin Casey (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) was ten-over with an 82. Aaron Selby (Crawfordsville, IN/Southmont) shot an 84.

The final round begins Saturday morning at 9:30 at Harrison Hills. Admission for the event is free of charge.
