Ohio Wesleyan University junior Justin Schroeder fired the only sub-par round on the second day of competition at the 2005 North Coast Athletic Conference Golf Championship, shooting a 71 to finish with a two-day total of 142 to earn medalist honors at the annual event. His scored helped the Battling Bishops to their fourth consecutive conference crown, edging Allegheny College by five strokes in the team score.
OWU finished with a score of 601, while Allegheny was second with a 606. Denison took third place with a score of 615. Wittenberg was fourth (622), followed by Wooster (626), Wabash (638), Hiram (681), Oberlin (701), and Kenyon (708).
Schroeder toured the Harrison Hills Golf Course and Country Club in Attica, Indiana with a 71 on Friday, but trailed Allegheny freshman John Brumberg after shooting a 66 in the opening round. Brumberg fired a 79 on the final day to finish second with a total score of 145. Craig Eckerle from Denison was third (72-76--148), and was joined on All-NCAC First Team by Doug McCullough from Ohio Wesleyan in fourth place with a 150 (72-78). Allegheny players Drew Denton and Ben Rathfon also earned First Team honors by tying for fifth place with scores of 151.
Rathfon (left) was voted the Dick Gordin Player of the Year by the nine NCAC coaches. He also earned the award in 2003. Allegheny head coach Jeff Groff received his first NCAC Golf Coach of the Year Award, also voted on by his fellow coaches.
Ohio Wesleyan's Andrew McIlroy, Wittenberg's Scott Aker, Denison's Mike Hassen, and Wabash's JP Manalo were All-NCAC Second Team honorees.
