As part of its summer upgrade program, Wabash IT Services will be moving all faculty and staff files and directories from the Scholar, Kane, and Monon servers to a single new server. Some files from the Caleb server will be migrated as well. These upgrades will result in improved access to campus files and resources, as well as increased capacity for personal file storage.
The conversion will begin Friday July 15, at 5pm, and will be finished by 5pm on Sunday July 17. During that time, files on the Scholar, Kane, and Monon servers will be unavailable.
Where Are My Files?
This new server, named Tuttle, will contain all employee personal directories, as well as all files for campus departments and organizations. Windows users will access the Tuttle server at drive P:, and Macintosh users at TUTTLE.STAFF (see below for more platform-specific information). Files will be organized into the following folders:
user | your folder will contain all of your personal files, merged from the Scholar, Kane and Monon servers. |
department | departmental shared folders and files will be located here. |
group | shared folders and files for College groups (e.g. committees) will be located here. |
Special Information for Macintosh Users
Macintosh users will be able access Tuttle with the "Connect to Server" feature of OS X, using this address (note the address is case-sensitive):
afp://tuttle.wabash.edu/TUTTLE.STAFF
Special Information for Windows Users
The new server will be mounted automatically as drive P: on your computer when you log into the network. Some drives you used previously to access files, such as the O: drive and the M: drive, will disappear or cease to function after this upgrade. All files for faculty, staff, and College organizations will accessible through the P: drive.
After the upgrade, you will need to make a change to your "My Documents" folder. To do this, right-click on the "My Documents" icon the desktop and choose "Properties." You’ll need to change the text in the "Target" field to:
p:\
Click OK to save the change.
Potential Problems
If you have shortcuts to any network files or folders, they likely will not work after the upgrade. You will need to recreate them. Similarly, merge document paths may need adjusted, and you will not be able to access files from "recent document" lists (you will need to go to File | Open in your applications and open them from the P: drive).
