Josh Stanton (Mooresville, IN/Mooresville) finished the year with the most RBIs in a single season for a Wabash player after knocking in six for the weekend. Stanton finished the year with 39 RBIs , passing John Panozz0 ’91 and Tom Quackenbush ’ 88. Both players had 37 RBIs in 1988. Stanton also finished as the top batter for the Little Giants this season with an average of .373.
The Little Giants scored 17 runs on 17 hits in game one as Marc Rowe (West Point, IN/McCutcheon) improved to 5-6 for the season with the complete game win. Rowe struck out three and walked only one in seven innings of work to earn the victory.
Shortstop Matt Carlson (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville) went 3-for-6, scoring three runs and knocking in another three in the ballgame for Wabash. Stanton added three RBIs in game one with a 2-for-5 performance from the plate. The Little Giants trailed 2-0 after two innings, but tied the game at 2-2 in third. Wabash exploded with six runs in the sixth inning and seven in the seventh to break the game open in the end.
Game two was close once again until the Little Giant put seven runs on the board in the sixth inning on the way to the 10-1 victory. Jake Martin (Rushville, IN/Rushville) went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs and three runs scored. Scott Shinkan (Munster, IN/Munster) was 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, and Stanton added another three RBIs while going 2-for-3 from the plate.
Wabash finished the year 13-24 in the first season under head coach Tom Flynn. The Little Giants won their last five games of the season by a total of 48-6. Wabash lost nine one-run games and four two-run games this season.
