Wabash Finishes Fourth at Conference Track and Field Championships

The Wabash College track and field team finished fourth out of ten teams at the annual North Coast Athletic Conference Track and Field Championships at Ohio Wesleyan this weekend.

Wabash finished with 105.5 points, just a half-point behind the College of Wooster (106 points) in third place. Ohio Wesleyan was first with 159.5 points, followed by Wittenberg with 124.5 points.

Darren Green (Dallas, TX/South Texas HS for Health Professions) took first place in the finals of the 200-meter dash, just edging out Ohio Wesleyan's Jason Martin. Both runners finished with times of 22.08 in the event. Martin slipped past Green in the 100-meter dash as Green took second-place with a time of 10.90, just .03 behind Martin's winning time.

Mark Sherer (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso) and Dan Ruge (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton) finished second and third in the 1,500-meter run for Wabash. Sherer crossed the line in second place with a time of 4:02.98, while Ruge was third after crossing the line in 4:03.93. Junior Jared Smit (Lafayette, IN/Central Catholic) was second in the 5,000-meter run after running the event in a time of 15:41.91, just two seconds behind the winning time. Smit added a third-place finish in the 10,000-meter run (33:07.61).

The Little Giant team of Zach Medler (Noblesville, IN/Noblesville), Scott Hoyer (West Lafayette, IN/West Lafayette), Chris Weitzel (Bringhurst, IN/Carroll), and Green combined for a third-place finish in the 4 X 400-meter relay. The four runners combined for a time of 3:25.80.

Josh Richey (Michigantown, IN/Clinton Central) was the top finisher in the field events for Wabash. Richey took third place in the discus throw finals with a toss of 132' 3"

The Little Giants will participate in the North Central Last Chance Invitational on Saturday on Saturday, May 19 in Chicago, IL.
