The annual Alumni Cross Country Run and Picnic, named in honor of the late Charlie Finch ’51, attracted another good turnout as Coach Rob Johnson gave his current team a chance to run the four mile course with several Wabash cross country and track legends.
The quote of the day came from two young Wabash runners. I overheard one of them talking about All-American Roger Busch ‘96. The first student said: "Look – Busch is serious, he’s putting on his cleats." The other student replied, almost in awe: "No one is going to catch him today!"
As you can see from the photos, Roger Busch ran with the current team for awhile before he decided to burn those cleats up with a time of 21:40, almost 30 seconds better than his time last year.
The oldest runner on campus this weekend was George Scharf ’42. George ran for Wabash beginning in 1936!
The event concluded with a luncheon at the home of Roselie and Tom Bambrey ‘68. Tom is Dean of Students and himself a former Wabash varsity runner.
